Buying Guide - Refrigerator

A refrigerator is one of those things you purchase once in a decade and shopping for one can be a daunting task. Refrigeration has advanced in technology and innovation over the years and now, more than ever before, consumers are offered a variety of sizes and styles to choose from. That's why we've put together this informative guide to help you along in the decision-making process. In the next few paragraphs we will cover the benefits of each of the following styles:

There are several things to consider when looking for a new refrigerator, but the most important thing to know is the clearance of the designated space where you plan to put the refrigerator. Regardless of the type of refrigerator you are looking for, it is important to check the measurements (height, depth and width) of your existing opening. Measuring the amount of space that is in front of your refrigerator can also help to determine what door style you will need. The following paragraphs give more detail about each stye that is available.

Top Freezer Refrigerators

The top freezer refrigerator is a classic, standard design and is among one of the most popular styles sold in the market place today. The layout conveniently positions the freezer at eye level while the refrigerator compartment offers wide shelves, making it easy to store large trays of food and allows easy access to things stored in the back of the refrigerator. Most top freezer refrigerators come with the option to add an automatic icemaker if desired. Some also offer the convenient feature of an already built-in icemaker along with an internal water dispensor, which can be accessed through the refrigerator compartment. Bottom Freezer Refrigerator

The bottom freezer refrigerator is becoming an increasingly popular design. The fresh food compartment is conveniently located at eye level, making it simple to access commonly used food items. No more reaching to locate things in the back of the freezer! The freezer compartment is conveniently located below the refrigerator featuring pull-out shelves and slide-out baskets for easy access to frozen foods. With advances in design, consumers now have a variety of styles to choose from: French 3-door, side-swing freezer door (as shown in the picture) and pull-out freezer drawer. Automatic icemakers and water dispensers are available with some models. View selection of bottom freezer refrigerators / View selection of french door refrigerators.

Side by Side Refrigerator

The side by side refrigerator design features two full-height compartment doors that open from the center. The freezer compartment is located on the left and tends to offer more useable storage space than other styles. Another benefit of the side by side refrigerator is the convenience of having filtered ice and water dispense out the front of of the freezer door. Both the fresh food compartment and freezer compartment are located at eye level for easy access to all of your food. Most side by side refrigerators offer the flexability of adjustable shelves and adjustable, gallon-deep door bins. Some have other space-saving features such as in-door icemakers and wider refrigerator compartments. View selection of side by side refrigerators

Under Counter Refrigerator

Under counter refrigerators are designed specifically for small spaces. They are ideal for use in bar areas, offices, dormitory rooms and studios. They allow you to store food without taking up a great amount of space. Adjustable shelves and door racks offer flexibility and the convenience of customizing the refrigerator space to meet your needs. View selection of under counter (compact) refrigerators.

Cabinet Depth Refrigerator

Cabinet depth refrigerators are designed to give your kitchen a sleek and seamless look. They feature a shallow 24" depth, allowing for the refrigerator doors to align nicely with the surrounding cabinetry, creating more of a "built-in" look for your kitchen. Cabinet depth styling is most commonly found in side by side models, but can also be found in top freezer models, bottom freezer styles and french door refrigerators. Cabinet depth refrigerators also offer convenient features such as roomy interior shelving and spacious door bins. It means achieving a built-in look without having to sacrifice any valuable storage space! View selection of cabinet depth refrigerators.

Specialty/Built-In Refrigerator

Built-in refrigerators are designed to be fully integrated with your cabinetry and provide a custom look to your kitchen. Most built-in refrigerators come factory-made with panel-ready doors to attach wood panels to match your existing cabinets. Some manufacturers also provide you with pre-made door options such as stainless steel, glass and others. Built-in refrigerators differ immensely in size and style so we recommend that you speak with one of our knowledgable appliance specialists before ordering one.
